Miami Beach drag queens weekly brunch at the Palace Bar- Miami Beach Events

It was an unusual audience Tuesday at the Miami Beach planning board meeting with a room full of perfectly coiffed Miami Beach drag queens.

Four Miami Beach drag queens, dressed to kill and backed by dozens of vocal gay South Beach residents, came to City Hall asking that they be allowed to continue entertaining at the Palace restaurant's weekly Sunday brunch.

Uproar started when guests at one of the more ritzy Miami Beach hotels, the Tides, complained about the noise generated by Miami Beach drag queens weekly brunch at the Palace on Ocean Drive.

The Tides, at 12th Street and Ocean Drive is the Palace's next-door-neighbor wanted the Sunday shows stopped.

Compromises were reached and the drag queens may continue their weekly Miami Beach events on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.However, the Miami Beach events must end no later the 10 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

Performances are indoors but crowds often spill onto the sidewalk on Ocean Drive. The Palace management said at the planning board they will try to keep crowds away from people that are dining outside the Tides.

The board told the Palace and Tides managements to work out their differences regarding the controversial Miami Beach events and return in two months.

Shan Kanagasingham, the Tides general manager said, "As always, our intent is to work together with The Palace Bar to find a mutually acceptable solution for the enjoyment of all of our guests."
