Imagine sitting on one of the beautiful Miami Beaches watching some great independent film making. It is possible if you add the Brazilian Film Festival of Miami to your list of things to see.

This annual Florida festival features great independent films from Brazilian and American film makers. Usually, it begins with an unveiling on a screen right on the beach! What better way can there be to enjoy some great films?

The Inffinito Foundation partners with the City of Miami to make this festival possible, a partnership that has lasted a decade to date. It is a great place for people watching, too, as thousands of people attend the Brazilian Film Festival each year. One recent festival boasted over 20,000 visitors. It is not just the regular movie-watching public who attends. Actors, directors, writers and more arrive each year to promote their films and network with others in the industry. With such a large crowd gathering, budding actors and film makers are sure to make some great contacts. The festival holds the distinction of being the only Brazilian event on the official city calendar as well as the biggest festival that is held outside Brazil.

The Brazilian Film Festival believes in kicking things off the right way! That is why it usually opens with outdoor screenings of the previous year’s winners. They later kick things up a notch by having bands perform for the visitors, creating a real party atmosphere that leaves everyone in attendance wanting more. But, as always, the festival comes back to the heart of the event: movies.

Tickets are pretty affordable at $10 a screening if you want to pick and choose which films you will see. If you have saved up a bit and want to see it all, they offer VIP passes that will allow you access to all the screenings. The VIP pass also allows the visitor to attend the parties and see the awards ceremony. Who knows... you may just get to see the next Academy Award winner picking up their first prize!

Prizes for the festival are determined by an expert panel made up of people in the Industry. The awards are made up of 11 different categories including Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. The audience is not left out either! They are allowed the opportunity to pick the winner of the best full length feature award, as well as the best short film.

Some of the films to have premiered at the festival include documentary What’s Up Tocayo? and Carla Camurati’s Irma Vap–The Return. Both have won awards at the festival in their respective categories. Noel-The Samba Poet, Entreatos, and Ruínas have also had their debut there.

The Brazilian Film Festival has everything you could want in an event: great films, fresh air and it’s a party like no other featuring music that will keep you on your feet. If you are planning a visit to Miami (or moving here and looking for things to do) this festival is definitely something you should consider.
