This beach is probably one of the most famous beaches in the country, as much for the art deco buildings that boarder the beach as for the partial nudity that's allowed there. The beach is great for swimming and very wide and clean for the amount of people that frequent it year-round. Lifeguards are on duty, but there are no restrooms. If you feel like being active, you can rent parasailing equipment, kayaks, canoes, bikes or windsurf boards, as well as umbrellas and chairs. The hotels and buildings along the beach provide shade in the afternoon. But the real action is along the sidewalk that stretches approximately two miles along A1A (also known as Collins Ave.), from 1st St. to 23rd St. Although some people think of South Beach as dangerous, police patrol the area both day and night, and parents can take their children to the play area. |
