The IFÉ-ILÉ Afro-Cuban Dance Festival, formerly called BAILA USA, features a series of dance and music workshops taught by both local and out-of-town master artists, bilingual discussions and dialogues on Cuban arts and culture, dance parties and a dance gala performance featuring workshop participants and teachers. The theme of the 2006 festival was Son. Son is a sensual style of dance that originated in Cuba during the 1920s and evolved into mambo or “dance on 2” in New York City during the Palladium era. This year’s festival will also include optional cultural heritage tours of Miami’s Calle Ocho, Coconut Grove and South Beach neighborhoods. |
