This tropical garden located in the heart of Coral Gables is one of the most beautiful gardens of South Florida. It is a must-see for nature lovers.
It is located 20 minutes south of South Beach. By car just take I-95 south, enter US1, go south on US 1 to SW 42nd Ave. (LeJeune Rd.). Turn left on SW 42nd Ave. and drive south to roundabout. Enter roundabout and take 2nd right onto Old Cutler Rd. Drive 2 miles on Old Cutler Road. Fairchild entrance will be on your left.
Once you turn left, you will immediately feel that you are in a totally different environment, the landscaping becomes greener, lush, and very tropical. Older majestic trees are bordering the street in both sides. Homes are wonderful and the more you penetrate going east on Old Cutler Road the more gorgeous and large they become. Overall, homes are no longer homes they become mansions. This neighborhood of South Miami, situated in the Coral Gables area, is definitely one of the nicest, with the most expensive and the most luxurious Miami homes. Coral Gables real estate properties are probably the nicest; consequently, the visit of this area deserves a visit of its own.
The Fairchild Tropical Garden is an ideal day trip for the whole family. This Miami tour is a must-see, if you like nature, beauty, serenity, and peace. The Garden is one of the most well known botanic gardens in the world. Its collection of rare tropical plants is phenomenal, with incredible palm, cycad and flowering trees. The Fairchild Tropical Garden was established in 1938, it is therefore part of Miami's history, and the 83 acre park is just a jewel. Besides, the garden is very well organized, so visitors can walk in the park and enjoy its beauty. Visitors can also stop to have a soft drink or even have a meal in a wonderful natural ambience. The food served by the restaurant “The Veranda” is succulent; therefore, your senses will be enlightened during this visit. Most of the tables are indoor, so outdoor lovers should reserve a table on the wonderful terrace.
The Fairchild topical garden organizes lot of events during the year, fairs, festivals, lectures. It is a good idea to check with the park what the events scheduled is.
During our visit we were lucky enough to see an exhibition of world renowned Pop Artist, Roy Lichtenstein. His monumental sculptures were scattered throughout the park. Additionally, the Garden organized the 2nd annual international chocolate festival, attendees could taste the delights, learn how to make chocolate and offered plenty of activities for kids.
A last suggestion, the Fairchild Tropical Garden is very popular among local and visitors, so get there early. The garden opens its doors at 9:30 a.m., and if you get there early or visit it during the week you will enjoy it much more.
If you are a photographer, you need to be there when there is as little people as possible, to appreciate your visit and let your camera express its emotions. People working in the park are very friendly and helpful to all visitors.
