Excavating Egypt: Great Discoveries from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology is a major traveling exhibition from the Petrie Museum of Egyptology, University College, London. The only of the events in Miami Florida that depicts the exploration of Egyptian civilization as seen through the eyes of Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853-1942), one the greatest British pioneers and archaeologists also known as the 'father of Egyptian Archaeology.' Browse through photographs, excavation notes, and personal journals that reveal more on the science of archaeology. Flinders Petrie, the inspiration for the movie hero Indiana Jones, excavated in Egypt for over half a century. Excavating Egypt: Great Discoveries from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology features over 200 of Petrie's most momentous finds, including many of which have never been seen by the public.
This popular events in Miami Florida features the Lost Egypt Portfolios produced by The Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago and images of the Nile Valley during a former era that disclose glimpses of an Egypt that no longer exists. Also, Excavating Egypt: Great Discoveries from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology displays jewelry, sculpture and relief, vessels, painted vases and mummy portraits, as well as objects of everyday life and fascinating illustrations of the technology of the ancient Egyptians. Learn about how people lived and died in the Nile Valley. Appreciate the decorative art from the the “heretic pharaoh” Akhenaten and his beautiful wife Nefertiti’s palace-city, gold mummy masks and funerary trappings. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 12 to 7 p.m. Thursdays 12 to 5 p.m. Sundays Admission: $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for non-UM students with I.D. and seniors, $5.00 for adult groups of 10 or more, $3.00 to student groups of 10 or more, and free to members, University of Miami students, faculty and staff, and children under 12.
