One of the more unique Miami events to hit the city is the Miami International Map Fair. In 2008, the Florida festival celebrates yet another year of bringing expert advice and unique pieces to visitors. The Fair will run for two days, February 2nd and the 3rd, and will be open from 10AM to 5PM. This makes it a great choice for a place to spend the day. This unique Florida Festival features lectures, receptions and much more. Some of the lecture topics will include “Introduction to Renaissance Map Printing”, “The Mapping of Africa to 1700" and “Why Collect Old Maps and How”. The event will also feature a boat tour of Miami Shores and North Bay. Those who choose to go on the boat tour will be able to see some historical sites and learn all about the stories behind them, including the spot where Al Capone used to fish. If that is not enough, there will also be lunches, cocktail parties and the chance to get your own maps appraised by experts in the field. You will also be able to add to your own collection, as there will be plenty of different maps for sale. If you would like to experience the Miami International Map Fair, please visit www.hmsf.org/programs-mapFair.htm for more information or to register online. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
