The Miami International Airport is one of the busiest in the US, but yet it is very well structured. Clearing customs and immigration can take a significant of time if one travels during peak times of the year. Customs and immigration formalities can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour.

The airport is located approximately 10 miles from South Beach. Mo matter what is your arrival time it is usually a smooth ride if your heading to South Beach. Heading South to or North might prove a bit more hectic during peak traffic hours. The drive from the Airport to South Beach takes approximately 15 minutes by car.

By Car
All major car rental companies have a site in the vicinity of the Airport. Transfer should take no more that 5 to 7 minutes to the parking lot. The largest car rentals firms usually have an office in South Beach, it might be a good idea, specifically after a long trip, to hop us in a taxi and to have the car delivered at you hotel. The way to South Beach is very easy, a map will guide you there in no later than 15 minutes.

By Taxi
Taxis line up at the arrival’s terminal, a dispatcher manages the line of taxi waiting for you. This part is well organized with a large numbers of taxis waiting. All taxi have meters, when getting out of the airport they have also pre established rates to the main tourist destinations. Rate are usually are regulated by the city and are usually posted on the windows of the car. Rates are approximately ( March 2007):

downtown: 20$
South Beach: 25$

By Limousine service
Travelers can also reserve a limousine service; the driver will usually wait at the baggage claim or the exit of customs and immigration. Arrangements should be taken in advance. Cost vary from 60$ and up.

By Van or Limo
Groupe Limousines wait at the arrival area, usually their destination is posted at the front of the vehicle, a flat fee is charged to your door. It is economical but take a longer time that a taxi.

Its vans operate 24 hours a day, they accept credit cars, they charge approximately 10$ per person (price vary according to destination). This solution might be economic but is lengthy, if you travel with another person we suggest that you hire a taxi instead. This might be a good solution for travelers that want to get very far away from Miami.
