The Grove Slam Fishing Tournament is just one of many things to do in Miami. The Tournament is back in Coconut Grove this year after a few years away from its original home. Every year people gather for the tournament to see who will catch the biggest fish and win those much sought-after cash prizes.

If you are looking to participate in the tournament, there are rules to be aware of. Each team is allowed 4 anglers per boat with the entry fee. If you want to add more to your team, you can add up to two extra anglers for $50 each. Contestants can enter by mailing in their application with payment, or dropping off forms and payment at tackle stores such as Crook and Crook or River Marine Supply. You can also enter by e-mailing or faxing a copy of the entry form, along with a PayPal payment. Each team member will be provided with t-shirts and wrist bands for each day of the tournament. These wristbands will entitle the team members to free food and drinks. Guests at the tournament can also purchase wrist bands for $20.

You can not change your team once the Captain's meeting has been held and you must have a valid Florida salt water fishing license to participate. One person from each team must be present at the Captain's meeting, where any of the contest rules can be changed. Any fish caught under ten pounds is not eligible for entry in the tournament and must be set free. Billfish are ineligible for the tournament, regardless of size, and must be released unharmed. All fish entered into the tournament must be clean, fresh and edible. Any participant not following these rules may be disqualified or forfeit any cash prize they have won.

Cash prizes will be awarded by check one hour after the weigh-in. The tournament, held at the newly renovated Monty's, will be recorded for airing as an episode of the TV show "The Bite" this season. For a complete list of rules, fees and events, visit the website at www.groveslam.com. Advertisers are also encouraged to check out the website and consider becoming a sponsor.

Fishing is not the only thing to see at the Grove Slam Fishing Tournament. Visitors will also be able to see products from the tournament's sponsors, as well as testing out some of them. One of the big events of the Grove Slam is its kick-off Lulau and Hula show, which they promise will make you feel as if you were actually on the Island chain. On May 4th, there will be an optional boat race as well as a photo op. On May 5th, the fishing begins. You can also get your boat washed or have some drinks and hors d'oeuvres at the bar. Later that day is the awards ceremony and Miss HOTFISH bikini contest.

If you are coming to the city of Miami while on vacation, consider stopping at the Tournament. There is sure to be something you will love. Do not forget to plan ahead and make your reservation now!
