Parking is severely regulated and enforced in South Beach. Drivers should be careful where they park, especially since parking in Miami Beach and Downtown is limited. Miami tourists should not park directly outside commercial buildings during unauthorized hours or in residential areas without authorization.

As a Miami tourist, it is important for you to know where you can and cannot park in order to avoid any fines and inconveniences during your stay in the city of Miami.

Cars will be fined and maybe towed if parked in restricted areas and without the required permission.

You should never park close to a red fire hose connection where, in case of an emergency, you can block the access of the firefighters. Instead, you should park 10 feet away from the fire hydrant to avoid any uncomfortable situations.

The yellow line on the side of the curb indicates that parking is not permitted.

You should not park in front of a store, bank, or venue with a private parking unless you are a client. If you do so, your vehicle might be towed.

You should not park in the parking exit or pedestrians exit of any building. In general, you should not block any entrance. Otherwise, this would be considered parking improperly and obstructing traffic.

You should not park in any handicapped accessed parking space without the required sticker. If so, you could be fined and maybe even towed.


Price of fines are as follow:
- Parking in a handicap spot without permit $ 153.00 first penalty
- Parking in a handicap spot without permit $ 253.00 second penalty
- Parking in a restricted area $ 28.00 and after 30 days $ 47.00
- Parking with an expired meter $ 18.00 and after 30 days $ 45.00
- Parking improperly $ 18.00 and after 30 days $ 45.00
- Obstructing traffic $ 32.00 and after 30 days $ 47.00
- Parking in a prohibited parking spot $ 23.00 and after 30 days $ 47.00
- Leaving car on and unattended $ 28.00 and after 30 days $ 47.00

Fines should be paid before the expiration date, or else the fine amount will almost double. These could be paid online, by the phone, and even via mail. In the city of Miami Beach area, you can pay your citation personally at:

When retrieving your car, you must show a valid identification and a valid vehicle registration. The price of towing is about $ 80.00 plus a daily surcharge; total which must be paid in cash.

Parking meters are severely enforced and found throughout the city of Miami and Miami Beach. You should always make sure to check the hours of operation of each parking meter as these tend to differ from place to place. The hours of operation of these parking meters usually run from 6 am to 9 pm. Areas that become part of the Miami nightlife might need parking meters until midnight. These only take coins and sometimes even with parking debit cards only available for use in any of the ten thousand parking meters in the city of Miami Beach.
