Franck Gehry goes to South Beach (March 2007)
Franck Gehry a legendary world renowned architect was born in Canada in 1929 and graduated from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design of in 1957. In 1962 he started his own agency called Franck O Gehry and Associates.
He worked mainly throughout the US but accomplished significant work in Europe, France, Spain, Tcheque Republic, Germany and England as well. A few of his numerous landmark buildings include: Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles built in 1989, the American Centre Bercy, Paris France built in 1993, Guggenheim museum, Bilbao Spain in 1997 and Gehry Tower in Hanover, Germany built in 2001.
He was also retained to design the New World Symphony building of Miami Beach. This project has an estimated construction cost of $ 200 million and will include performance space and rehearsal rooms. This building will be located north of Lincoln Road on a lot that now belongs to the city of Miami Beach really close to many Miami attractions. The planned building will be different than the titanium structure, the usual signature of Franck Gehry. The 95,000 sq. foot building will be a bulky white structure with soft curves. This new performance center will welcome 700 attendants. The Project will break ground in the summer 2007 and is expected to be completed by year 2010.
