If you have explored the Miami event listings
Miami-Info.com has to offer, you know that there are many cultural Festivals taking place each year. The Hispanic Heritage Festival, HaitianFest
and others are all Miami events designed to celebrate other cultures as well as educate visitors. One of these Florida Festivals is the Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival. This event is billed as the largest of its kind and aims to celebrate the impact the African America community has had on the Sunshine State.
The Festival first hit the town in 1976 and was founded by William R. Rolle. He worked with 9 others to put together the Festival despite many financial obstacles early on. They founded a non-profit organization, the Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival in Coconut Grove, Inc. to get the event off the ground.
The Bahamas Goombay Festival is an entertaining event for the whole family. It will not only teach them about another culture while having fun, it is also a place to meet new and interesting people. The Florida Festival is an outdoor event, so make sure to bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen to protect yourself from the harsh rays of the sun.
The Florida festival has been made possible through the years thanks to the support of the Bahamian Tourist Board, Mercy Health Systems, Discovery Cruise Lines and more. Each year, thousands of people gather for this free event, and it only continues to grow. If you would like to learn more about the Festival and the people behind it, please visit the website at www.goombayfestivalcoconutgrove.com.
