Though you mostly hear reference to Miami Beach when someone talks about Miami vacations, the city has plenty of other less known gems to share with the world. One of those is Key Biscayne. Key Biscayne is a seven-mile-long island only a few miles from the mainland. It was once the largest coconut plantation in the continental United States. After the construction of the Rickenbacker Causeway and 1.2 miles of bridges in 1947, Key Biscayne became Miami’s exclusive and little-known-about key. It is now the capital of bonefishing and a great Miami vacations destination with Key Biscayne vacation rentals. The tidal flow around the island keeps the water clean and of good quality.

Today, there are over 10,000 residents living in Key Biscayne. There are a cluster of condos on the north end of the island but, for the most part, Key Biscayne is made up of extensive two or three-story homes. Pedestrians, joggers and bikers follow the web of sidewalks at any given time of day. There are two hotels on the island for Miami vacations: the Ritz-Carlton and Silver Sands (a mid-century motel with basic rooms). Alternatively, many of Key Biscayne’s seasonal residents rent out their homes as Key Biscayne vacation rentals.

Key Biscayne is home to two of the region’s best parks:
Crandon Park
Here you will find a variety of ecosystems such as mangroves and coastal hammocks. It has two miles of beaches as well as a boardwalk, nature trails and a rare fossilized reef.

Bill Baggs State Park

This park is located at the very tip of the island and is most well known for its historic lighthouse. This is where you can find some of Miami’s best swimming beaches, dine in waterside restaurants and embark on ranger-led tours.

Look for your Key Biscayne vacation rentals today.
