Downtown Miami Development - Miami Real Estate

The approved master plan by the Development Authority for Downtown Miami combines new land use and planning guidelines, as well as outlines a number of proposed commercial and residential Miami real estate projects, some of which are already underway.  The plan is a culmination of existing studies, many Miami DDA Board workshops, public forums and input, and stakeholder meetings in order to get a better understanding of existing conditions and bring together the best ideas for revitalizing Downtown Miami.

1 - Enhance Downtown Miami’s standing as the business and cultural epicenter of the   Americas.

How Actively seek and provide retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Target, Crate & Barrel, a chain supermarket and other key businesses to serve Downtown Miami residents.

2 - Leverage the City’s beautiful and iconic tropical waterfront.
How - Redevelop Bicentennial Park into a major international waterfront park and museum complex, complete Baywalk and Riverwalk and create an iconic waterfront element at Flagler Street and Biscayne Bay. Also improve connections from the inland to the waterfront and providing greater daytime dockage and tall ship berths. As well as, develop Waterborne Transportation System linking Downtown Miami to major waterfront destinations and enhance access and connectivity to Watson Island.

3 - Elevate Downtown’s grand boulevards to prominence.
How - Raise Brickell Avenue to Iconic Status, create a grand promenade along Biscayne Boulevard and a Freedom Plaza between the Freedom Tower, American Airlines Arena and the Port of Miami. Also promote public art, dining and retail landmarks along Biscayne Boulevard and Brickell Avenue as well as provide a visitor friendly trolley linking major points of interest.

4 - Create great streets and community spaces throughout the district.
How - Redevelop Flagler Street into Miami’s main street pedestrian and reinforce Brickell Village Center along South Miami Avenue and Mary Brickell Village. Connectivity to neighborhoods surrounding downtown will be enhanced as well as Downtown Miami's corridors.  Downtown parks, open space and greenways will be connected and promoted while enhancing basic community services.

5 - Promote transit and regional connectivity.
How - Rebalance roadways towards transit, pedestrians and cyclists. Promote neighborhood transit such as streetcar, Metromover and trolley as well as promote transit such as Baylink, expanded Metrorail and promote Light Rail, FEC Corridor, Tri-Rail and High Speed Rail. And, develop a viable Downtown Intermodal Center at Government Center or Overtown Metrorail stations and support transit with car sharing service, bike rentals, pedicabs and other creative mobility solutions. A Holistic parking management system will also be developed.
